Women & Money Montreal Celebrates 100th Zoom!

We made it to 100 Zooms!

Founded in 2020, Women & Money Montreal began its weekly financial literacy Zoom sessions in October 2021. This week we celebrated our 100th Zoom – such an accomplishment! I had no idea we would make it 100 and I have nobody to thank except this wonderful community of women who come out week after week. I appreciate all your support.

This week’s Zoom was a little different and instead of me just yapping away, I really wanted to dive into our money mindset, our view on money, and basically – what’s next? We’ve come so far but still have far to go. What’s next for women and what do we need to do in our own lives.

Addressing negative vs positive money mindsets

Being wealthy doesn’t necessarily mean you have a positive money mindset. Having a positive money mindset means having a positive relationship with money. What does that mean?

  1. Believing there’s enough money and opportunity in the world to create wealth. Even if you’re going through rough times, you hold your head high because there’s always a solution. All it takes is hard work, making smart decisions, perseverance, and believing in yourself.
  2. Being in control of your finances, which includes be responsible for your financial decisions.
  3. Understanding the value of money. Don’t we all wish we were born into money? Not really. Fast or easy money also goes easily. Understand how hard you work for that money and do the right things with it – save, invest, spend money wisely, always give back.
  4. Embrace financial growth. Take that promotion. Accept that higher position. Try it and if it doesn’t work out for you, move on. Staying at the same position for a long time limits your financial growth. Your annual raise covers inflation but it doesn’t help you increase your net worth. Same thing goes for staying in a business that doesn’t increase its profits year over year.
  5. Be generous. Work, save, invest, spend money wisely, increase your net worth year over year, give back to your favourite organizations.

A negative money mindset leaves you feeling powerless, overwhelmed materialistic, or dependent on others to bail you out. There is nothing wrong with purchasing luxury items if you have the financial means. What’s wrong is when you purchase luxury items in order to receive external validation.

By collectively embracing a positive outlook about money, us women can continue to make advances, earn more money, save and invest, generate wealth, climb up the corporate ladder, and move into decision-making roles that will eventually change the flow of the world. For those of us who feel financially positive, it is up to us to help lift up other women who still have limiting beliefs about money or experiencing imposter syndrome.

Thank you for the first 100 Zooms and here’s to another 100! Looking forward to seeing what more this community can bring.
